One A-mazing Night -- Chapter Three

Chapter Three

We walked back into the walls of the Labyrinth. Hoggle guiding our path. We passed an elderly dwarf that asked, “What do we have here?” “Uh...nothing.” I said sheepishly.

It erupted then. “Nothing? NOTHING!” It was the Goblin King. I whipped my sword out, and held it threateningly in front of me. I took a defensive posture.

He turned to Hoggle and asked, “What are you doing?”

“Uh, you see, your majesty I tricked this girl into thinking I was going help her through the Labyrinth, I was really planning to take her back to the beginning like we had planned.” he said. “Good”, said the Goblin King.

I wanted to hit Hoggle with the sword, but I knew he was lying, so I up played the anger a bit. “What!!! Why you little I'll run to through with my sword!” I shouted and chased Hoggle down the passageway a bit, and cornered him.

“What are you doing?!” he said.

“Playing up your lie. Trust me.” I whispered winking at Hoggle. “You're such a coward. Killing you wouldn't be worth much.” I said a normal volume, and turned away from the two of them.

The Goblin King continued “ That's good, because if I though for one minute that you were betraying me I'd be forced to throw you head first into the Bog of Eternal Stench.”

“NO! NOT THE BOG OF ETERNAL STENCH!!!” cried Hoggle as he collapsed to his knees. He grabbed the King's legs and held on there until the Goblin King kicked him and said, “Oh, yes.” Hoggle continued to wail and grovel before the Goblin King.

I turned around and walked back to the Goblin King with the sword still drawn. “Impressive sword.” he said.

“Thanks,” I said curtly.

“Well, how are you enjoying my Labyrinth?” he asked smiling at me.

“It's not that bad, in fact it's so easy I could do it blind folded.” I said confidently. It was a half lie, but my policy is never let 'em see you sweat.

“Oh, really? It's easy is then let's up the stake shall we.” he said. “Hey! I did say to do that!” I shouted, and made move as if to stab him. He dodged, and said,” What's that mark on your hand?” I held up my hand and said,”I is my mark of power. It is the mark that shows that have been chosen by the Gods.” I said.

Then, something weird happened the Goblin King's eyes widened and I said in time with another deep voice,” I am the daughter of two worlds. The Goblin's Rose, the chosen heroine of this Kingdom, and destined to become a hero of light, to stop the destruction of both worlds.” Then, I stumbled forward, and caught myself. I saw Hoggle come up from behind. The Goblin King's eyes were still as big as moons.

“Wow! Kid you are somethin' else.” Hoggle said.

“Tell me about it.” I said.

The Goblin King seemed to recover from his shock. He smirked at me and said, “If it's really so easy. How about you try this on for size.” He pulled out a crystal and threw it and something appeared behind him and he disappeared.

“IT'S THE CLEANERS!!! RUN!!” Hoggle shouted.

So, we took the better part of valor and ran the heck out of there. I felt an off shoot path and grabbed Hoggle. We collapsed on the ground in a heap.

“Why are you so afraid of the Goblin King?” I asked. “Because, I'm a coward, and Jareth scares me. Now, get off of me!” Hoggle said. “

Oh, okay.” I said. “Why does he scare you?”

“Because he towers over me by several feet, and did see the way he dresses! He's the King! That's why.” Hoggle explained. “Oh, that's why, eh?” I said.

Then a black poof ball flew in. “I've found you! I've found you!” it said flying around my head. It was a fairy, the good kind like in The Legend of Zelda.

“How do you know me?” I asked.

“I waited for you I'm your fairy. My name is Darka.” it said. “Darka... Good to have you aboard.” I said.

Then, Jareth popped up from around the corner and said, “What nice reunion, but you've got less the four hours, Leslie, I'd suggest you go.” then he disappeared again.

“Come on you guys let's go.” We walked on to hear and ear piercing roar.

“AAAH! Goodbye!” shouted Hoggle.

“Should I catch him?” asked Darka.

“No, he'll turn up when we need him. He's a good friend even though he's a bit of a coward.” I said to Darka. We continued walking. The roar we'd heard sounded distant and far away. So. I wasn't worried about it.

“So Darka how did you find me?” I asked.

“Well,” She replied. “I've been searching for you for a long time.”

I looked a her hard, and asked, “Exactly how long is a 'long time'?”.

She sheepishly flitted from side to side, and finally said, “About a thousand years.”.

I was flabbergasted. “A Thousand years! You were looking for me that long?!” I said in utter disbelief.

“Yes, I am actually the guardian of that sword you now posses. I wanted to find the possessor of that sword, because it was getting lonely being in the forest day in and day out. So, I went searching for someone to take the sword, but those I chose were never the right one.

So, I kept looking. Then, I was you come up to the sword on your own and take it, and then I knew you were my human, and I was your fairy.” Darka explain to me.

“Hey how come the good kind of fairy is spelled F-A-I-R-Y and the bad kind is spelled F-A-E-R-I-E?” I asked.

“It's a long time distinction between the two fey clans. You see a long time ago the fey went by one tittle. Which was faerie, because we had piece. Then, there was this big fight between to clan leaders. One, was in favor of helping the humans, and the other just wanted to reek havoc on all species human, goblin, etc. So, they separated into two different clans. Those who were for helping others, like granting wishes, being companions, etc., and the other for being totally mean and self absorbed, and rude. That's when they titles changed and the two names started. Of course the humans got confused, because both titles sounded the same. So, they got the two clans confused into one. That's how the fey separated into two groups and humans got confused between the two.” Darka explained.

“What about pixies?” I asked.

“Pixies are and off shoot of the fairies, because they help, and are companions, but they also cause trouble.” Darka explained.

“Oh, it's all making sense. Thanks for the explanation.” I said. “Hey, Darka?”

“Yes, Leslie.” she replied.

“What were you before you were the guardian of my sword, and my fairy?” I asked.

“I was the Goblin King's fairy.” Darka said. I choked, and stared at her. “Yeah, I was Jareth's fairy until I was assigned to guard your sword, and waited until you appeared, and before I was Jareth's fairy I was on my own.” Darka said.

“Really?” I asked.

“Yep, and I'm about three thousand years old” Darka replied.

“Wow, are you really old in fairy years?” I asked.

“Nope, in fairy years I'm about the equivalent of you. Seventeen, in my late teen years.” Darka asked.

“Man, you fairies live a long time.” I said. She bounced up and down, her version of a nod. We continued walking in silence until we came to the spot where the roaring had come from.

What will happen to me and Darka when we find the source of the roar? Will it be a creature that will kill us both? Will I survive this night? Find out in the next chapter of One A-mazing Night!

One A-mazing Night - The Next Chapter

Chapter Two

I walked to the walls as the sun rose in the sky. I found someone by the wall killing what appeared to be a faerie. My first reaction would have been to tell him to stop, but then I recalled the stories of how mean faeries actually were, and give no more thought to the matter. I walked up to what appeared to be a dwarf, and said,

“Excuse me sir, but could you show me how to get into the Labyrinth.”

“Uh...Why do want to go in there?” he said, as he turned around and seemed dissatisfied or irritated. “Oh, it's you.” he said. “Do I know you?” I asked in consternation.

“No, we've never met, but I know a lot both you.” he said. “Okay then, if you know so much here a trivia question for you.” I said. “What's my name. My full name, and how old am I?” I asked.

“Your full name Leslie ------------ --------, and your seventeen years old.” he said.

“Okay, I gave you an easy one. Here it goes. What are my two favorite game series?” I said.

“Uh...uh...I give up.” he said. “My two favorite game series are The Legend of Zelda, and Star Wars.” I said. He shook his head and began to kill faeries again. “Say, you know my name you mind telling me yours?” I asked.

“The name's Hoggle.” he said flatly.

“Well, Hoggle you mind showing me the way in?” I asked. “You get in over there.” Hoggle said, and turned around and pointed behind me. I turned around to see gates open to the path within the Labyrinth.

“Thanks Hoggle, see ya 'round.” I said as I waved goodbye to Hoggle.

I stepped into to the Labyrinth and puzzled over which way to go. Decided to try going forward. Sure enough the wall ahead was fake, and I found an opening. I knew if I though of this as a regular maze I was doomed for failure, and failure was not an option. I kept on going straight not only relying on my inner compass, but I was also listening to my instincts. If playing video games had taught me anything it was to trust your instincts. I walked for about five more minutes going forward to find a fork in the road. I Walked up to see if the wall was fake again, but this time it was real. So, I listened hard to my logic, and instincts and chose to hang a left.

As I walked on I routinely check each wall on either side for an opening. Nothing yet. It felt like one hour had passed since I'd started. I had no clue as to how long it had been since I had started this contest, but it was certainly more than an hour. Then, I remembered I had a wrist watch on. I looked down to see how long I had. Holy smoke! I had only Twelve hours left, and I was only half way into the Labyrinth! It felt like I knew this place, and could tell the right path from the wrong ones. Perhaps, I really could get out of here in two hours. I looked up to check my orientation again. The castle appeared to be getting bigger. Which meant I was getting closer. I began walking again.

Still feeling for openings along the both walls. I found one! I listened to my instincts and I went through the opening. I walked only a short distance until I dropped into a hole in the ground. Okay, sometimes your instincts are wrong. I knew where I was. I was in an oubliette. I sat there wondering if someone would come and find me. Sure enough someone did. I heard footsteps, and said, “Who's there?”

“It's me.” said an all to familiar voice. A match was struck, and I saw Hoggle's face.

“Hoggle what brings you here.” I asked. “I've come to get you out of here.” he said.

“Why?” I asked.

“You're a nice kid, and I'd hate to see nice girl like you stuck in a nasty oubliette.” Hoggle said patting my knee.

“Thanks, Hoggle you're a good friend.” I said smiling at him.

“Say If I give you my watch will you take me as far as you can in the Labyrinth?” I asked.

“Sure, but don't you need your watch to see how much time has passed?” he said.

“I've got my cell phone.” I said, and pulled it out. “Wow! Excellent reception!” I exclaimed.

“Okay, I'm makin' no promises, but I'll take you as far as I can.” Hoggle said.

“Did you mean it?” he asked me.

“Mean what?” I asked confused.

“You said I was good friend. Did you mean it?” he asked. “Yes, I certainly meant it. You've been so kind to me, and the least I could do to repay you is give you my watch as a trade for your kind help.” I said.

“I've never had a friend before.” Hoggle said.

He walked over the wall picked up a door and opened it. It opened to reveal sun light.

“Well, come on.” he said. I stood and walked out he shut the door we were in a vast forest. “Whoa! What happened to the Labyrinth?” I asked a little baffled. “You're still in the Labyrinth. But it just looks like you're not.” Hoggle explained. “Oh, I get it.” I said.

We walked on to find a clearing in the forest. In the center stood a sword in a stone it was covered by vines, but I could make out something on the hilt. A rose emblazoned in red on the pommel. “My symbol!” I said with a gasp.

“What's yer symbol?” Hoggle asked. “Oh, the sword, several people have tried to get that sword, and no one has succeed.”

“Well, I will.” I said and walked over to the sword. I took hold of the sword, and pulled lightly. Sure enough it came out. I raised it up toward the sun.

Light surrounded me, and next thing I knew my hand had the a rose, and swirls surrounding it emblazoned on my skin. Like a birth mark. I looked down at my clothes, and my black shirt was red, and was a tunic top with rose vines running down the sleeves. I was not wearing skinny jeans, but black leggings, and red boots. on my chest was the sideway squiggle that was on the tip of my sword blade. I wore red leather fingerless gloves with black protective leather arm pads with that same squiggle. Everything on red was embroidered in black, and anything embroidered on black was sliver. The only other color besides red, black and silver that was present was a hint of green. My belt was green and looked like a rose vine. On the belt hung the scabbard that would hold my sword. It was black with a rose and vines on it, but it was actual metal. The sword itself was the size of a two handed broadsword, and had the squiggle I mentioned on the tip on most of the blade were vines embossed and gave the illusion that it wrapped around the blade. It felt light and It was most likely made with a light durable metal.

“Wow!” Hoggle stammered. “Ya know there's a big legend 'bout that there sword ya got.” Hoggle said.

“Really? Do tell.” I said. “Talk while you walk, were I've got a schedule to keep.” I added.

We began to walk along the path ahead. Hoggle continued to tell me the legend behind the sword I now carried. According to him the original owner of the sword was the first and only Goblin Queen. She supposedly was a warrioress that the first Goblin King fell in love with and made her his queen. She fought in the wars that expanded the Goblin Kingdom's boarders. She was from a tribe of warriors call the Rose Clan.

As the legend goes at the end of the thousand year's war when peace was established the Goblin Queen placed her sword in a scared stone in the center of the forest, and it was blessed by the Gods of her people. She promised to never take up that sword again unless the Goblin Kingdom or her people were in danger. One night an angel came to her in a dream. She told the queen that her promise would be kept, and the only person who could take up that sword would be the next chosen hero of the Goblin Kingdom. For she was the first chosen heroine of the Goblin Kingdom. The Rose Clan was from a collection of other tribes that made up the a small community of humans called the Flower Tribes, because each clan was a different flower, in the Goblin Kingdom .

“So, yer the next chosen hero of the Goblin Kingdom. The only question is why?” Hoggle said. “What do you me why?” I asked. “To have taken that sword ya must be a from that tribe or from the Labyrinth and to be from here to have to either have a goblin or one of the flower tribe's people for one of yer parents.” Hoggle explained.

“I was adopted, but I have no clue. I've always had these little quarks, that make me different.” I said.

“Well, you'll figure it out sooner or later.” Hoggle said. Then, I fell silent. Thinking about what Hoggle had told me. So, I was the Goblin Kingdom's new chosen hero. Technically I was a heroine, but who cares.

What will happen next? Will I be able to make it through the Labyrinth? What is this role I am destined to play as Hero of the Goblin people? Is going to lead me to my destruction or grant me something that will strengthen me? Find out more on my journey through the Labyrinth in the next chapter of One A-mazing Night.

My Stories

This the first fan-fiction I've ever posted. But, I've worked hard on it. I did a self-insertion fan fiction based off of the movie Labyrinth. I hope it's good. Later, I may post in installments of other stories, but here's this week's installment of my first ever internet posted fan-fic. Hope you like it.

Chapter One

I never imagined my dreaming would get me into such trouble, but I has. Now, it seems I'm getting the rewards of my dreams. I'm sorry you must be horribly lost. Let me introduce myself. My name is Leslie, I'm not going to give out my last name because it's of the utmost importance that little part of me remain a secret. This all started last night, or was it tonight. Oh, forget it. Let me start at the beginning. It's summer, and I am in my community's theater play of the movie Labyrinth. I'd never dreamed that one of my favorite movies would be made into a Broadway musical, and I was cast as Sarah.

It was opening night, and my parents couldn't make it because they had to go somewhere important for my dad's job. They could only drop me off at the play. Opening night was great. I was taken home by a family friend after it ended. My parents wouldn't be home until well after midnight.

So, I went up to my room to draw, and read. I got severely bored after the first hour alone. It was only ten o' clock too, and my parents wouldn't be back until about two in the morning. I wondered why the thing was so important that my parents had to be out late. I was seventeen after all, so it shouldn't have bothered me. I layed on my bed and stared up at the ceiling. Then, in my sever state of boredom I said something really stupid. I said,

“I wish that the goblins from my play would take me away from this place.”Then, I turned on my Labyrinth CD, and turned off the lights and decided to sleep. Bad move on my part, because I really, and I mean really meant what I'd just said. Everyone knows that when you put your heart into something and wish for it chances are pretty high that you'll get it, and it won't turn out to be at all you wanted. But, I didn't really care about that. I just wanted out of this world that was so horrible with all its wars, heartbreaks, sorrows, and most of all death. I wanted to leave so badly.

I though of this as I fell asleep. It felt like only a few minutes had passed before something woke me up. I woke up because I'd somehow remembered that I forgot to take out my contacts, and I hadn't changed my clothes. As I woke up I felt tiny hands on my back, and I heard loud laughter. I tentatively opened one eye and looked around. I was in a torch lit tunnel or hallway. I looked down to see several creatures carrying me. I instantly connected two and two and I went tombstone still.

“Won't the King be pleased!” chuckled a goblin holding my left foot. “We've got the girl.”

“Yeah,” said the goblin holding my right hand at the wrist. “He'll be surprised that she finally said it.”

Then, it hit me they were talking about the wish that I'd made before falling asleep. Would let them take me to the Goblin King or would I try and make a break for it? I decided to let them take me as far as the beginning of the labyrinth and then fight and bolt for the way home. The time came soon enough. I kicked the goblin in the head that held my right foot. Then, they were all surprised and dropped me.

I rolled over backwards got up and made b-line for the tunnel we'd just come out of. I was going full speed, full throttle up that tunnel. Then, I turned my head and saw something. A bird, no an owl flying fast to catch up to me. I ran harder. I knew who that owl was, and I wasn't just going to slow down, and give up. Either I'd win, and get out of here or he'd win then I'd run the opposite direction. I don't know why I turned into a competition, but I did and ran even harder, but he beat me anyway. I tried to slow down, but I was going too fast and my footing slipped and I rolled head first into his legs. I was Momentarily disoriented. Then, I shook my head, and looked up.

“Well, well, what have we here?” he said. I was still dizzy as I stood up. It was no surprise that I stumbled and fell backward. I decided to stay on the ground, and said the first defiant thing came to mind.

“What gives you the right to kidnap me?” I said glaring at him.

“What gives me the right is the same right that you have to make the wish you just did.” he replied. “Leslie, what's said is said.”I instantly blurted out, “I didn't mean it!”

“Oh, you didn't.” he said sarcastically.

“I wanna go home.” I said flatly. Then, he held something up to the light. “What the heck is that?” I asked.

“It's a crystal. Nothing more, but if you turn it this way and look into it it will show you your dreams.” He explained.

“Okay,” I said.

“Do you want it?” he asked. I said nothing, and looked at him. “Then, forget about going home. Your with us now.” he said to me.

I rolled my eyes and said, “I'll keep my freedom, thanks. You can't stop me I'm going home and nobody is going to tell me other wise.” I said as I stood up and glared at him.

“If you're so determined to go home then there's only one way you can.” he said.

“Let me guess. I have to go through the labyrinth to go home.” I said in an annoyed tone of voice.

“Yes, you have to retrieve something of yours. Or you remain here with us forever.” he said.

“Fine, what is it that you are going to take from me?” I asked with my arms crossed.

He reached forward a crystal in hand, and it turned into a black ball. Something came out of me. A moment later he held it up. It was a baby, but not just any baby. The baby was me as a baby. “What did you take from me!” I shouted.

“Your memories, and they took this form. You as an infant. You have thirteen hours in which to solve the Labyrinth or you remain here with us forever.” he told me.

“Fine, thirteen, ha, mazes are my thing I'll in two.” I said. “You have thirteen all the same, but we'll see if you can beat the clock. Such a pity though.” he said.

“What'd ya mean 'such a pity'?” I scoffed. He just shook his as began to disappear, and said once more,”Such a pity.”

I stood there for a second. Trying to work out a plan. Perhaps the movie had things backwards or it did show enough, but I had to get started. So, without another moment of hesitation I walked up to the walls of the Labyrinth to get started.

Video Game Blues

Have you ever gotten stuck in a level or part of a game you are playing and cannot figure out how to get past it? I know I have and I have figured out to stop freaking out over being stuck. There are six steps to getting out of the frustration of being stuck in a video game, and I call them My Six Steps to Avoid Destroying Your Video Game Console.

The Six steps to Avoid Destroying Your Video Game Console
  1. Test out some theories on how to get past the part (If it works more power to you).
  2. If step one doesn't work then take a deep breath and take a break.
  3. After you've done step two return to the game and try step one again.
  4. If doing steps 1-3 does not work turn on your computer go to goggle and look up a walk through of the game you are playing.
  5. If the game walk through is giving you nothing but nonsense go to the phone and call up your super gamer friend(s) to see what he/she/they have to tell you.
  6. If what your friends' advice doesn't work turn off the game and try the game tomorrow repeating steps 1-5
Well, I hope you find these six steps help full.
(Disclaimer)
(please be careful these steps may not work for everyone. They may actually cause worse agression in some serious gamers and will result in high blood pressure and eventual loss of the game console. Ask your friends if these steps are right for you.)

The Wisdom I've learned from My Cats

My cats are full interesting things to learn. For instance, when your hungry annoy the people who are supposed to feed you endlessly until they feed you, and then be happy and precede to stuff your face. That is one of the things that only is good for a cat to know because if a human were to try to do that they would wind up with a swift kick in the butt or slap in the face. But, there are many good things you can learn from a cat. Here is a list of the things I have learned from my cat.
  1. Wash yourself before every meal. (good hygiene counts)
  2. Give others some room. (Not everyone is as cozy as you are)
  3. Never do things too fast, pace yourself.
  4. Be open to new ideas from your friends.
  5. If you get into a fight with your friend give them some room to cool down before you try to talk(play) with them again.
  6. If something hurts say something about it.
Those are just a few things I've learned from my cats, and I hope we all can put this wisdom to good use.

Video of the Month: The Ultimate Showdown

Character of the Month: Luke Skywalker

For The month of September is my all time favorite character Luke Sykwalker!!!! Luke is gentle and sometimes a bit naive, but he always comes through for his friends. He's a hopeless romantic, and is a real sweet heart. He is truly heroic, but he doesn't always look before he leaps. He's a bit reckless, but he starts to finally get the point towards the last movie. He's also really cute! I personally have a huge crush on him!!! He's so cool! Well, hope to see for the next post. This is Leslie signing off.
